Monks, who cleared the land, settled here in the 11th and 12th centuries, and founded a monastery dedicated to Saint Maurice, patron saint of the parish.
A 15th century wooden statue in the sacristy of the church recalls this episode. The statue was listed as a historic monument in 1971. The church choir is all that remains of the Monastery’s chapel. It has capitals that are the exact copy of those in the large Benedictine Abbey of Déols, where only remains exist now. The choir is adorned with polychrome frescos that recall the devotion to the saint and the monastic origins of the parish.
Erected in 1997 in "Gué d’Amour" on the Vignole, a stele commemorates the legendary meeting between King Philippe-Auguste and Richard the Lionheart that brought about their reconciliation at the end of 1195.
