It is between the walls of this late XNUMXth century mansione century located 30 minutes southeast of Châteauroux which George Sand wrote his greatest literary successes. She inherits the Domain of Nohant in 1821, on the death of his grandmother who had previously acquired it.
George Sand spent most of her time in Nohant, a haven of peace in the Berry countryside that she particularly appreciated. The six-hectare park, classified as a remarkable garden, is ideal for beautiful walks.

Born Aurore dupin in 1804, at the dawn of a XIXe century of great artistic and intellectual richness, George Sand is one of the most prolific writers of her time. His work, consequent, contains more than seventy works, number of them having for setting the Berry who is so dear to him.
Very quickly separated from her husband, she emancipated herself from the social constraints that weighed on her. A fervent defender of women's rights, she shocked her peers by her obstinacy in wearing men's clothes and by the adoption, in 1829, of a pen name that has now passed on to posterity.
Her love life caused a scandal, her suitors being as numerous as they were famous.

George Sand receives the greatest artists of the XNUMXth centurye century. Of Chopin à Liszt, Delacroix à Flaubert, everyone crowded at the gates of Nohant and sat down at the table of this remarkable woman whose free and independent spirit fascinated them. Chopin, with whom she has a tumultuous relationship, has her own room upstairs.
