The residence of the Prince of Talleyrand

visit Valencay castle, is to visit the domain of a Prince ! Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord, one of the greatest French diplomats, rich collector, great traveler and aesthete gave all its luster to this castle built in the Renaissance by the family ofStamps.

Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

Cultivated and superiorly intelligent, the Prince of Talleyrand is a faceted man. Well known for his participation in the events that followed one another in France from the revolutionary period to the reign of Louis-Philippe, he was also, in his field of Valençay, an active and influential great lord.

Important player in the history of France and Europe, Talleyrand is a controversial personality who still fascinates. As much for his great talents as a diplomat as for his surprising adaptation to the different regimes that occupied the political scene of his time.

Taking his distance from the power in place as soon as the worst, according to him, was announced, he therefore successively supported: the monarchy, Revolution, Directory, Consulate,Empire, first Restoration and July Monarchy.

Honoring the arts

Fully furnished and adorned with a thousand precious objects, the castle bears the marks of the refinement of a residence that still seems to be inhabited.

High place of French heritage, the estate is also a place of artistic creations. In perpetual renaissance, this 53-hectare estate offers you the luxury of time and space to visit parks, gardens, exhibitions and allow you to reflect, listen, see and applaud artists who perform on the scenes around the world. The young public is never forgotten, it finds all the tools to learn in a playful way.
